EFFORT TO AVOID CHILD,

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day. Mr. Geo. Chappell, of.the Waihi Gold Mining Company's assay staff, when passing through Waikino in a baby car, swerved to avoid striking a child walking on the road. The result was that the vehicle turned a complete somersault and landed on the side of the road upside down. Mr. Chappell was pinned under the wheel, but escaped injury. The car was badly damaged.
