POWER SHORTAGE.
POSITION AT NEW PLYMOUTH
SERVICES CURTAILED
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. A shortage of power Is being experienced in New Plymouth, and the tram services have had to be curtailed as a result. ( Yesterday motor buses were requisitioned to relieve the position on the main tram routes. Everything possible k being done by the electricity department to minimise inconvenience to consumers. The plant at the fertiliser works at Smart Road is being used and the council's own plant is generating every possible ounce of power. It was hoped that the Taranakl Tower Board might be able to grant some help, but it is understood that unless there was rain in the meantime there is little possibility of any relief from this direction. Street and community lighting systems are being suspended, and retail (shopkeepers are laying in stocks of candles in anticipation of a breakdown in power this evening.
