TURF CARNIVALS.
EPSOM MEETING OPENS.
CARMEL'S AUCKLAND CUP.
DECEMBER HANDICAP TO BENEFICE.
The Auckland trotting carnival opened at Epsom in beautiful weather before an excellent holiday attendance. The track is fast. The meeting will be continued on Tuesday and Wednesday. Besides pacing fixtures at Carterton and Westport, three racing gatherings also reach finality this afternoon (New Plymouth, Dunedin and Hokitika), while the Awapuni gallops entered on their second stage and will terminate on Monday. At Alexandra Park the initial winner was Kolmar, who beat Royal Triumph and Anseline in the Selby Handicap. Benefice and Rawhitiroa paid the dividends in the December Handicap. The Auckland Trotting Cup was captured by Carmel, who was followed home by Harold Logan and Jewel Gold Treasure was first past the post in the Christmas Handicap, Dealer and Mignonne filling the minor places.
