ADVENTURE.
MONA TRACY'S LATEST,
A bright and lively adventure story of Australia's early days is Mona Tracy's "Martin Thorn—Adventurer' (Whitcombe am 1 . Tombs). It is the life story of a Sydney boy who is drawn into'the nefarious schemes of as wicked a lot of ruffians as could be found outside gaol walls. Norfolk Island, ;Sydney, New Zealand, and on shipboard, ashore and afloat, there is constant movement 0' interest, and if there is any boy who reads of those in the story without wishhe could join them, he must be a 'milksop and no man. One of our educational authorities said but. yesterday: "There is too much feminine influence in our schools," yet here is a' robustious and rousingi essentially masculine, narrative for boys—told by a woman. Mrs. Tracy has a gift for this sort of adventure story, as "Rifle and Tomahawk'* and "Lawless Days" showed, and it is" encouraging to know that she is keeping on writing this kind of tale for. her ■ own countrymen. "Martin Thorn—Adventurer," is excellently illustrated in colour and in black and white.
