"A noteworthy book," was the opinion expressed by Dr. Whyte, Roman Catholic Bishop on 7 Mr. A. G. Butcher's publication, "Education in New Zealand » m an address at a school "break-up. Ine book, he said, had caused a great deal of criticism, and the statistics which it quoted had been called /in doubt. W showed very deep research, in which the author pointed out ways in which religious schools such as ours could receive a subsidy." , , The reasons, said the bishop, tor Catholic schools not getting a subsidy was not to the credit of the general public of New Zealand. Mr. Butcher's publication was a very noteworthy book, which would be heard of in future.
