Campaign to Popularise Produce
Of Dominions.
PICTURESQUE CEREMONY.
(United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright)
(Received 11 a.m.) LONDON, December 10. The picturesque ceremony arranged to accord a public reception to the Empire butter fleet, which has a record cargo and which was organised by the Australian r.nd New Zealand importers as part of a publicity campaign, ought to do much in popularising Empire butter. A small army of newspaper photographers and cinematographers took "shots" and the pictures Avill appear in newspapers and cinemas throughout the country. In the subsequent speeches the Lord Jlayor of London, Sir. Phene Neal, emphasised that keeping business within the family was a real cure for economic ills. ' He proposed to continue preaching the gospel of Empire self-help and urged the Mayors of every city to promote friendly rivalry with other towns in obtaining the largest increase in the demand for Empire goods, ' thereby securing an immediate r ection in bigger orders from.the Dominions which would quickly disperse the clouds of depression. Sir Granville Eyrie,' Australian High Commissioner, and Sir Thomas Wilford, High Commissioner for New Zealand, expatiated on the virtues of the butter from their respective countries. According to an earlier message, the arrival of the ships at Hay's Wharf, on the Thames, was to foe made the occasion of a civic ceremony in which the Lord Mayor was to pay a state visit to the vessels, and'the'cargoes were to be' taken in decorated barges -to the wharf, where the High Commissioners for Australia and New Zealand, Sir Granville Ryfie ari-.i Sir Thomas Wilford, were to await the Lord Mayor. The ceremony of "piping the side" was to be carried out' as iSir William Phene ■ Neal stepped on to the tug in recognition, of the Lord Mayor being Admiral of the Port of' London. Ths captains of the boats were to be presented to the .Lord Mayor, who was to receive from Enipfre dairymaids a butter model of a cow for distribution among hospitals.
