SUPPLY OF STORES.
hospital, board decision, j OBJECTION TO NEW METHOD, j Resentment was-expressed by some members of the Hospital Board at yesterday's meeting at"3the method adopted by the relief committee in securing tenders and allotting the contract for stores. The committee had reported that instead of having separate tenders for each district, one had been accepted for the whole of the metropolitan area. The innovation would save the board hundreds of pounds. . When Mr. E. H. Potter expressed his disapproval of this procedure, the llev. W. C. Wood said the committee could not have come to any other conclusion. Mr. Potter: Will it be a saving to the board? Mr. W. Wallace: It will be a considerable saving. Mr. Rowe agreed with Mr. Potter, and said he did not like the idea of one firm having the whole contract. Mr. M. J. Savage, M.P., said that not one member of the committee disagreed with the sentiments expressed by the opposition, and he, too, would have liked to see the old system of small contracts in the various areas continued. "But j. defy them to bring down any other report than the one submitted," continued Mr. Savage. "It means a great saving, and there* was nothing else for the committee to do." It was explained that all the storekeepers in various areas had had the chance to tender. In every case the successful tenderer was very much lower. Mr. Potter said he wanted* his name recorded against the decision. The committee's report was adopted.
