In a reserved decision, ?iven at the Police Court 1 yesterday afte/iioon; Mr. F. K. Hunt, 531., fined Daniel McCarthy,, licensee of the Victoria Hotel, Wellesley Street, fo 1/ on a charge -of exposing liquor for sale after-hours on October 12. On the previous day Percy Carlyon had b6en fined £1. and costs on a charge of being on licensed premises after hours. ' V* Further charges, relating to Octob.er ,7, were heard yesterday. McCarthy was 'charged with keeping the hotel open for the'sale of liquor after hours, and for selling and exposing liquor for sale after hours. Charges of being found on licensed premises without lawful excuse were made agaih6t four men. All pleaded not guilty. Mr. H. P. Richmond represented the licensee. Sergeant Brencliley said that, in company with a constable, he went to the hotel at about 10 "p.m. on October 7. In the cotomercial rooiri, upstairs, he found the four men standing near a table on which was liquor. Two "of them said they were boarders, and gave the numbers of their rooms, and the others said they had come to do private business with them.,. " ( - ' After hearing evidence, the magistrate v #aid there appeared to have been some reason for the presence of three of tlxc v men. He was suspicious with regard to the fourth, but he would be- given the ljeneifit of the doubt. *
