ANOTHER AIR RACE.
Miss Spooner and Capt. Barnard Flying to Capetown. HOPE TO RECORD. LONDON, December 3. Miss Winifred Spooner, who won the King's Cup air race this year, set out at dawn to-day on a dramatic attempt to fly from London to Capetown in five days, or four days less than the previous record. She will be accompanied by Flying Officer E. Edwards. The two flyers propose to travel at night as well as in the day time. Miss Spooner says she hopes to show that the Imperial Airways service soon to be inaugurated could he run on a five-day schedule with a relay of pilots and machines. She, of-coursv,'will depend upon one machine, a De Soutter monoplane ci 120 horse-power with a Gipsy engine. The flyers have sufficient petrol for 11 hours' .flying. The cruising speed of the machine is 110 miles an hour, and its range 1200 miles. The total distance on the route to be flown is 10,250 miles. Captain C. D. Barnard also is to start to-day on a flight to Cape Colony. j
