NIGHTMARCH FOR AUCKLAND ? MASON'S HORSES MAY COME NORTH. CIIARMEUSE AND TE AWHINA GOING EASY. ' I (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.")' CHEISTCHURCH, this day. Mr. G. Gould is reducing his racing team, and the threc-year-'olds Pharaoh, Gallante and Joel will be offered at j auction at Riccarton next week. j
T. Lloyd will go North this week with Gay Crest, Desert Song, Adelphi and Royal Baby, who are engaged at the Woodvilie meeting. They will not return until' after the holiday racing, which may be done at Auckland, though Manawatu is a possible alternative. A. McAulay has been waiting for the Auckland Cup weights before coming to a definite decision regarding the northern trip, and probably will make up his mind very soon? Niglitmarch lias received just a trifle more weight than was hoped, but it is probable that he will be at Auckland, with True Shaft as a mate. With the weights he has to receive now the winning of handicaps will not be easy for the Night Raid liorse in future. There are a few weight-'for-age events ahead, including two in. Auckland. It looks as if -Nightmarch will do his racing for the balance of the season in the Dominion, as with Pilar Lap iu the way, another Australian trip does not offer much prospect. P. V. Mason has been working all his team the reverse way lately, and it is probable he will take some of Mr. G. D. Greenwood's horses to Auckland. Jaloux, Praise, Ilkley and the two-year-old Dodge look in excellent health. G. Murray-Avnsley is keeping his team going in useful tasks. Some of his horses may be raced in the South during the holidays, while a visit to Trentham in January is a possibility. The autumn prospects of this stable seems fairly bright at present.
Channeuse has been allowed to forfeit her Ashburton engagement. She Avas not at her best at the Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting, and H. Nurse is.disposed to give her time. A patient policy should pay, as she is a good galloper when all right, and she may win; some.„ decent stakes in the autumn. Te Awhina has made her reappearance on Wie track, but she will be restricted to light exercise for a time. If she remains sound she will be prepared for autumn racing. ' A three-year-old gelding by. Paladin from Divinia, the dam of Charlatan, Punchestown a'nd Divinette, is the latest addition to T. H. Gillett's team. W. G. Hobbs is not doing anything with the two-year-old Jordan at present, and he may not be raced again 1 until next, season. The race record, of this gelding will be followed with some interest, as his sire Jericho (by Archery) a'nd his dam Palestrina (by Clarenceux) both claim the Martian mare Judith as their dam.
