HAWERA TRACK WORK.

CHIEF LINK'S SMABT FOUB. MEND IP AND AWAKEN SPELLING. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") HAWERA, this day. The conditions were ideal for training operations on the Hawera tracks this morning. Chief Link and Silver Rule went four furlongs in '51s. Paparua showed to advantage in a sprint over three furlongs with Barbara Kent in 395. Banbridge, Gowan Lea, Garrick, Kissless, Paitonu and Green Linnet all worked together on-the plough. They trotted once round and then did a mile at three-quarter pace, all moving along well. Bon Eve and Miss Slieff were companions over five furlongs in 1.4. .Gasnapper did a working gallop over a mile. Goblin Market, Iciogne, Compulsory and Peg Black did a round together" at a slow pace, and then ran a mile at three-quarter pace. Attentive, Peter Jackson, Glad Star and the Hunting Song —Whakatana filly did useful work together. Orazone has again started working on the tracks, as have also Garrick and Valcluse. < Mendip and Awaken are both spelling, each 'being under a cloud.

AT TAKANINI. GOOD MILE EFFORT. The weather was fine and the going good for training work at Takanini this morning, but there were not many fast gallops executed. In the Shade (Jones) "and Sargon (Stewart) were companions, oyer a mile. They ran the first four furlongs in 51 3-ss, five in 1.4 3-5,-and the full distance in 1.43 3-5. Both horses went well, and it was a good performance. Bronze Eagle; (Jones) and Vandyke (H. Gray) ran half a mile on the plough. They covered the first two furlongs in 255, three in 37 3-ss, and finished up their task in sls—a smart effort. Columba (Edwards) and the Pombal —Leta gelding ran three furlongs at about 14s to the furlong.

AUCKLAND RACING CLUB. General entries for the summer meeting of the Auckland Racing Club and forfeits for the Great Northern Derby, Great Northern Foal Stakes and Royal Stakes, close with the Mr. W. S. Spence, at 5 p.m. to-morrow. SCRATCHINGS. • Prodico was scratched for all engagements at the Auckland summer meeting on /Saturday last. Awarere was withdrawn from all engagements on Friday. MANAWATU RACING CLUB. Nominations for the slimmer meeting of the Manawatu Racing Club and forfeits for the Palmerston North Stakes close with the secretary, Mr.. V. T. Dibble, at Palmerston North at 9 p.m. to-morrow. > WAIPA RACING CLUB. Acceptances for the annual meeting of the Waipa Racing Club close with the secretary, Mr. J. G. Wynvard, Te Awamutu, or Messrs. Blomiield and Co., Shortland Street, Auckland, at 5 p.m. to-morrow.
