The conditions were decidedly mixed and at times very unpleasant during working- hours at Riccarton tins morning. Several heavy showers fell, and somo of the work wns. interfered with. The inside of the trail grass and the plough provided good galloping ground, but there was nothing of an exciting character about the proceedings. P. V. Mason restricted his team to light exercise in the centre. ■ Paquito was given three-quarter pace work, while Coroner and Shatter were associated in a useful spin over iive furlongs, run in 1.3 1-5. Spoon was given ran easy half-mile, and Footfall and Raima were associated over a mile on the plough, in 1.47. Count Cavour went twice round the plough, brushing home over the last halfmile. Pharaoh and Jael covered seven furlongs on the grass in 1.30 1-5, but there was not much between them. They will both be racing at Adhburton, Jael being in the High-weight Handicap, in which G. Salt will ride her. Gallante and Juniper sprinted three furlongs up the back on the grass in 38s. Owlsflight and Ball Dress occupied 1.19 for six furlongs on the plough. Full Feather went twice round finishing up each time with a throe-furlong sprint. Sharp Thorn accompanied him the first time. Porlock and Straight Course were companions in a three-furlong sprint. Giggleswick and Weathcrly occupied 1.20 for six furlongs! Gay Crest and Desert Song took 1.33 for seven furlongs- on the plough," both going freely with not much between them at the finish. Gustavo is coming on nicely in his preparation for holiday engagements, Don Jose ran seven furlougs on the plough in 1.35. He looks in great order. Silver Coot took 52 3-5e for half a mile on the plough, and Pixie Gold was given a three-furlong sprint. He is a lighted fleshed horse with great speed, but since he has been at Hiccarton he has been a big disappointment, stopping verv quickly in all his races. Discourse, who has been m K. They are all working well, and the first named pair will be raced at Aehburton on Saturday. F D. Jones is working hie team with a View to- Auckland engagements. Paquito, First Sight, Solvent and possibly a hack will constitute the paity 'the trip is made.
