PARNELL BATHS.

WATERFRONT ROAD ACCESS

NO PROVISION MADE,

Special conditions have been laid down by the Transport Board in respect to traffic to the Parnell baths, as far as the waterfront road bue service is concerned. No passengers, except residents of St. Helier's and Kohimarama, are to be set down or picked up at the baths. This is regarded by some as a hardship, as there is an overhead bridge leading from the new road over which the buses will travel to the baths. The license granted to L. J. Keys, Ltd., prohibits him from picking up passengers 15 chains on either side of the baths, and five chains on either side of the intersection of the Strand .and the waterfront road. "The intention," explains Mr. J. A. C. Allum, chairman of the board, "is to prevent the company from conveying passengers from the city to the baths and back again, in competition with the Transport Board's own services. The license is designed to cater for the residents of St. Helier's, Kohimarama and' Mission Bay, and people wishing to go there." The -baths. are at present served by a Transport Board bus, which travels via the Strand, St. George's Bay Road, Cleveland Road, Gladstone Road, and St. Stephen's Avenue to. Point Resolution. The inclusion of the prohibitory clause in the license granted to Mr. Keys will- prevent usei-3 of the baths and residents or the lower portions of Parnell from using the waterfront road service. Mr. Allum, added that the last word had not been said. Experience would show what would suit the public best, and it might be found later on that it would be necessary to modify the present arrangement. The. first business of the board was to get the new service running. «.
