TRACK GALLOPS.

NOTES FROM RICCARTON

A QUIET MORNING.

GUSTAVO RECOVERING.

SIMBA SENT HOME

(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. This was a quiet morning at Riccarton. No. 6 grass .track was open, but was not much in request, most of the work of a useful order being done on the plough. There Avas a little more interest after .breakfast,' when the starting barrier at the five-furlong post was available, many trainers giving their young horses some practice, with a burst down the straight. H. B. Lorigan, who arrived the previous day, gave hie' team useful work. Concentrate looks well, but Cimabue Appeared sore after striding along at a strong pace over six furlongs. J. McLaughlm had Duellona* and Staghunter out doing steady tasks. They are in capital condition. T. J. Daly's team, Hynanna, Lady Pam, Sir Limond, Mies Ransom, Cape Gold, and Maritime strode along at a useful pace. All look well. Gustavo was given useful pace work, moving .freely and pulling up well. He appears to be suffering no ill effects from his seven-furlong gallop on the previous day, and as the heat in. the joint is subsiding, T. H. Gillett is hopeful 'that the colt will soon be right again. Present intentions" are to run him in the Riccarton Handicap on Saturday, and if he comes through without trouble he will take his place in the New 'Zealand Derby field on Monday. . Nightmarcli was restricted to trotting exercise. He will finish his Cup preparation with a mile gallop to-morrow. Sargon went ecratchily while working on the .plough. Gay Crest did easy exercise on the plough. He looks on,the light side. Troilus, looking in good order, strode out freely over two circuits on the plough, and did his work well. Don Jose may be allowed to forfeit his engagement in the Riccarton Handicap on Saturday. He is in good condition, and may be seen to advantage later in the meeting. . . -i A. E. Ellis will ride Golden Wings an the Welcome Stakes. A. H. Eastwood may pilot Autopay in the Stewards' Handicap. The two-year-old Lochlaggan has not done well lately, and is a doubtful starter at the meeting. Toxeuma has come strongly into discussions for the Stewards' Handicap during the last few days. The Hawke's Bay three-year-old Simba, who went wrong recently, has. been sent home. The Southland trainer F. J.- McKay arrived with Paris, Latin Quarter , and Lucky s ' Light. The following horses arrived from , the North this morning: Spearmiss, Courageous, Shortly, .Chief Cook, Chief Clerk, La Poupee, Arrow Lad, Tripping, Johneen, , Imateagirl, Make Up, Projection, Arrowzone and Cessation. The outside of the course proper will be open for fast work to-morrow, when the final gallops will arouse a good deal of interest. ' .. .
