YACHT LOSES MAINSAIL
The keel yacht Waione, recently purchased by Messrs. R. J. Thompson, X. Hammond and G. Tuckler, of Ponsonby, had a very rough trip home from Kawau yesterday. It was the first run of the season, and good time was made going down on Saturday afternoon. The yacht left Kawau at 10 a.m. yesterday and had a stiff beat tip the channel against the. hard sou , -wester. After opening uj> North Head, and when the yacht was laying towards Kohimarama shortly after four o'clock, an extra fierce squall' carried away the mainsail, ripping it along the foot from leach to luff. ■ Under her jib and the remains of the mainsail the yacht made close in to the southern shore and dropped anchor off Mission Bay, from which she was towed back to her moorings shortly after G p.m. ; Several disabled sailing craft were towed home 'by some of the big motor ■boats, whose owners showed the true yachting spirit of helping the smaller i craft.
