IMPERIAL PENSIONS
DECEMBER ALLOWANCE. PAYMENT BEFORE CHRISTMAS. 11l order that unemployed and needy British ex-servicemen should have funds to provide themselves and their families with Christmas cheer, the secretary of the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association, Mr. E. H. Sharp, wrote to the Ministry of Pensions, asking that Imperial pensions for December, which are payable on the last day of the month, should, this year, be paid before Christmas. Mr. Sharp has received a reply from the Ministry of Pensions stating that the position in regard to the payment of British pensions for the month of December was that the Department had authority to pay certain classes of allowances on account of the Ministry of Pensions only each December from the same date as New Zealand pensions and family allowances. "This," the reply stated, "applies ouly to instalments payable in arrear, and due not later than December 31, and covers the ordinary Great War liability pensions. New Zealand pension and family allowance instalments, due on January 1, will be paid this year from December 22, and this is the date on which Imperial pensions covered by the authority given to the Ministry of Pensions, will be available also." This action, the secretary said this morning, had been taken for the first time last year, and had been, very much apprecjkited I>y the men.
