ANOTHER CRASH.
Matthews , Mishap En Route To Sydney. ENTHUSIASTIC WELCOME. SYDNEY, October 27. Captain Matthews, who recently flew from England to Australia, crashed on his way to Sydney to-day. His machine was rather badly damaged but the airman was ndfc hurt. Escorted by Flying Officer Owen, Captain Matthews , left Brisbane at 7 a.m. He lande'd at Lismore for .luncheon and was given a civic reception there. He resumed his flight shortly after 2 p.m. Captain Matthews had attained an altitude of 100 feet when the- engine of his machine stalled. He glided to the earth and struck a wire fence. The. undercarriage of the aeroplane was broken, also the propeller and a portion of the fuselage: The onlookers were relieved when Captain Matthews climbed out of the machine uninjured. Hβ lit a cigarette and remarked, "Well, that's that." The airman later came on to Sydney in another aeroplane, arriving at 4.5 p.m. He received an enthusiastic -welcome.
