FELL FROM BICYCLE.
YOUTH DIES OF INJURIES.
TRYING TO CATCH LORRY.
Admitted to the Auckland Hospital yesterday afternoon suffering from injuries following a fall from his bicycle in Manukau Road, Frederick Joseph Parkes, a baker, aged 19, died at 3.45 this morning. According to a statement made to the police by Gordon Pve, Parkes was riding liis bicycle along Manukau Road near Mount St. John Avenue at a fast rate about three o'clock yesterday afternoon. He appeared to be trying to catch a •motor lorry, and suddenly fell on the concrete. The motor lorry was driven by a Chinaman, who was later stopped. He returned, but said that the cyclist did not strike his lorry, nor did he see the youth. When Parkes was first admitted to the hospital his condition was not regarded as serious. An inquest was opened by the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., this morning, but was adjourned after evidence of identification bad been given by the boy's father, Joseph Parkes, of 2, Alvis Street, Remuera.
