HOYT THEATRES.
COMPETITION IN AUSTRALIA,
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Friday.
The manager in New Zealand for the Fox Films Corporation, Mr. E. Rutledge, who has returned from Sydney, says he believes that the action of the corporation in taking over the Hovt theatres throughout Australia: from October 1 was welcomed, as that company was not in the strongest position and_ had not the Fox Corporation stepped in a position that would have been a practical mono- . poly might have occurred. As it was,' competition was assured, the various sub-companies were sure of a film supply, and the 'ordinary shareholders were, he understood, in a happier position than they would otherwise have
been. Mr. Rutledge gave an assurance that there was so far nothing definite as to the Fox Corporation's corning into New Zealand as a theatre proprietor. It had its hands full at present in taking ever the 100 theatres in the Hoyt chain.
