HIT THE ROOF.
MISHAP AT WIGRAM. MOTH AEROPLANE WRECKED. PUPIL UNDERGOING TEST. EXTRICATION DIFFICULT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. A Moth 'plane valued at £600, piloted by Mr. J. Grimes, was completely wrecked this morning when it collided with the roof of the Wigram Aerodrome, the pilot being uninjured. Mr. Grimes, a pupil of the Canterbury Aero Club, was undergoing a test for a pilot's certificate at 10 a.m.j the examining officer being Wing-Commander Grant Dalton, Director of Air Services. Grimes had successfully gone through the early part of the test, and wa3 doing a figure eight above the roof of the 'drome when the machine collided with a pole carrying electric power. Carried 011 by its speed, the machine then hit the roof and was wrecked. The back of the machine was broken, and the propeller splintered into fragments, but tlie engine was undamaged. A hole Bft square was torn in the roof of the hangar, and before the machine could be extricated a portion of the timber had to be cut away.
