LABOUR PROTEST.
WAGE-REDUCTION PROPOSALS INCREASES ADVOCATED. DEPUTATION TO MR, RANSOM. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. A strong protest against any suggestion that the wages of workers should ■be reduced was voiced by a deputation representative of all sections of the Labour movement, which waited on the Acting-Prime Minister, the Hon. E.' A. Ransom,- and the Minister of Labour, the Hon. S. G. Smith." It was argued that instead of being reduced wages should be increased, in order to improve the purchasing power of the people, and thus bring about a greater consumption' of locally-manufac-tured goods. The request was also made that a commission should be set up to inquire into the cost of living. A careful consideration of the case made but by the deputation was promised.
