TICK-INFESTED AREA.
MINIMUM FINE IMPOSED,
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WITANGAREI, Monday.
A well-known Auckland agent, Percy Swaflield, was charged to-day with' the removal of stock from' a tick-infested area without a permit.
An inspector said 10 springers were bought at Waiotira and trucked without being dipped. In a letter Swaffield said he invariably gave instructions for a permit to be secured, and he could not understand why that course had not been followed.
The defendant's application for the suppression of his name was refused by the magistrate, Mr. G. N. MorriSj who inflicted the minimum fine of £5 in view of the inspector's statement that the case was the first of the kind to be taken in the district for nearly two years.
