LAWN TENNIS.

AUCKLAND CLUB. The annual general meeting of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Club was held at the Chamber of Commerce last Thursday, October 2, at 7.30. The president. Mr. It. S. Burt, presided over an enthusiastic attendance. The secretary, Mr. C. Fletcher Jones, made a short review of the club's activities for the past season, and drew the members' and intending members' attention to the excellence of the nve new courts taken over by the club at Stanley Street. The following officers were elected: — President, Mr. R. S. Burt; vice-presidents, Dr. Finlay, Messrs. A. R. Brett, E. Higson, A. T. Coppard; secretary, Mr. C. Fletcher Jones; treasurer, Mr. R. H. Jones; ground superintendent, Mr. \V. Curtis: delegates to the A.L. T.A., Messrs. R. S. Burt, C. Fletcher Jones; auditor, Mr. W. Holgate ; general committee, Messrs. Holgate, A. Hosklng, Crompton. Williams, and C. W, K. Leynold; ladles' committee, Mesdames CaduesiS, Verran, Misses A. Hackett, Abdullah, Ahlfeld and I. Service. The president then presented trophies to the winners of the club's tournament, who i were :—Ladies' championship singles, Mrs. !R. Cadness: men's championship singles, I Mr. L. Whittaker; ladies' championship tlojibles, Mrs. R. Cadness and Miss R. Major; men's championship doubles, Mr. A, J. Shackel and Mr. C. Elder; combined 1 doubles, Miss I. Abdallah and Mr. A. Crompton; ladies' handicap singles, Mrs. R. Cadness; men's handicap singles, Mr. T. P. Merron. The secretary reminded members that the club has a few vacancies, and that early application should be made to the secretary, Mr. C. Fletcher Jones, c/o Robert, Malcolm, Ltd., City Chambers. EAST TAMAKI CLUB. There was a large attendance of members of the East Tainaki Tennis Club, and visitors from sister clubs, at the official opening of the club, held on Saturday afternoon. Mr. James Ross, president of the club, extended a cordial welcome to the : large gathering and called on Mrs. Ross to 'play the first ball of the season, after which he declared the courts open for play for the 1930-31 season. During the afternoon progressive tennis was indulged in and after an intereritmg and keenly contested series of games, the winners were Miss Ji. Hill and Mr. A. Johnson, , A pleasing ceremony took place when Mr. D. S. Ross, .who recently resigned the office of secretary on account of ill-hoalth, after six years' service, was presented by Mr. Hosp, on behalf of the members of the club, with a pocket wallet, in appreciation of his work during his term of office. Mr. Ross spoke in appreciative terniH of the valuable services rendered by the recipient and wished him a speedy recovery to good health. Mr. Shaw suitably responded and thanked the members for their very kindly wishes on his behalf. INTER-CLUB GAMES AT WHANGAREI. WOODHILL CLUB. The opening of the Woodhill Tennis Club's courts took place on Saturday afternoon, A number of visitors were present, the Holensville, Kaukapakapa, WainmnUu and Waikoukou Valley Clubs being reprcThe courts were declared open By Mr. Stanley Phillips, president of the club. Mr*. Stanley Phillips presented a silver rose bowl to be competed for by the lauy members of the club. NICHOLSON PARK CLUB. Despite the rather unfavourable weather conditions, a large number of members were present at the official opening of he club, which took place on Saturday. The president Mr. F. G. Blott, in declaring the courts open for play, wished the club a verv successful season. During the afternoon a knock-out tournament was held, the winners being. Mrs. Armitage and Mr. Cameron. MATAMATA CLUB. There waa a very large attendance on the Matamata courts on Saturday, for the official opening, over 80 players having to be provided for. Visitors were present from the Waharoa, Wardville, Hinnera, Tirau, Okoroire, Te Whetu, Te Pol and the Matamata Presbyterian clubs. Dr Laurenson, president of the Matar mata Club, declared the court formally open for play, and also presented the trophies won during last season tor the following competitions .-—Men's championship singles, B. Green; ladies' championship doubles, Misses Beverley; men's handicap singles, J. Davis; ladies' handicap singles, Miss Bell. For the first part of the afternoon a yankee tournament was contested. The winners were as follow:—Men: Hitchcock 34 points, 1; K. Fitzgerald, 32 points, Z ; Bragg, £d points, 3. Ladies: Miss Oates, 37 Joints, 1; Miss Ktonnex, 31 points, and Km. Hanlyn, 31 points, 2; Miss M. Beverley, 30 points. 3. MORRINSVILLE CLUB. The opening of the Morrinsville Tennis Club's courts for the season on Saturday was a quiet affair, as the wind and threatening weather deterred many players from .attendinc. A tournament arranged had to be abandoned. The club has a number of promising new members. MANGAWARA ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the Mangawara Tennis Association, which includes toe Tahuna, Hoe-o-Tainui, and Te Hoe Clubs, was held on Thursday, Mr. W. Moxsoin presiding in the absence of the executive chairman, Mr. W. Thompson, The report and balance-sheet showed that the association had had a very successful inttial season. The following officers were elected: — Patron, Mr. Austin Carr; president, Mr. Thompson, sen; vice-presidents, Messrs. A. Irwin, L. Roid, E. Speedy, James Robertson, E. Elliott, B. A. Waido, D. Thompson, and B. A. Thompson; executive committee, Messrs. W. Thompson (chairman), T. Hamilton (secretary), Stewart, Mossom, and Major (Tahuna delegates) ; Thompson, Hamilton, and Green (Te Hoe) ; and Kendon, Topping, and McHardie (Hoe-o-Tainui). The draw for the first round 4s as follows. —November 1: Hoe-o»tainui v. Tahuna, at Hoe-o-Tainui; Te Hoe a bye. November 8: Hoe-o Tainui v. Te Hoe, at Te Hoe • Tahuna a bye. November 15 : Te Hoe v. Tahuna, at Tahuna; Hoe-o-Tainui a bye. TE KAWA CLUB. Air C S Mexted presided at the annual meeting'of the. Te Kawa Lawn Tennis Club The annual report and balance-sheet showed a very satisfactory position financially, there being a credit of about £12. The election of officers resulted :-- Patron, Mr. L.
