TARANAKI OIL BORING.
FAVOURABLE REPORTS. MINES MINISTER'S STATEMENT. (By ,Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Monday. Advice received by the Hon. A. J. Murdoch, Minister of Mines, indicates 1 that oil prospects in Taranaki arc very favourable. The Minister stated in the House today that reports indicated that the boring companies were now coming within range of oil, and in one case it was believed that the prospects were excellent. One company had stated that it .would be able to supply the whole of tile requirements of New Zealand. The Mines Department had assisted the oilboring companies by rebates/in Customs duties on machinery. None of the progress reports which have been issued regularly by the various companies engaged in the search for oil has disclosed tangible results. Directors' reports have been hopeful and confident, but oil as a payable proposition has still to be proved.
