CAMEO CLUB.

The newly-formed Cameo Dramatic Club gave their second production in the club rooms, Union Buildings on Wednesday evening, and was well supported with an interested audience. Three one-act comedies provided the programme, and the staging and acting reflected credit on the producer, Miss C. L. Chambers. The evening opened by a comedy sketch, "Evening Dress Indispensable," which showed the efforts made by a youthful widow to cure her daughter of a suddenly adopted craze for self-expression and a narrow outlook on life. Miss Yvonne Watson was the daughter; Miss Fay Anstiss, her charming mother; Mr. V. H. Wilkinson, George Connaught; Mr. A. D. Bathurst, Geoffrey Chandler; and Miss Loma Griffith, Nellie .the maid. The chief play was "Calais to Dover," where the scene is laid on a cross-channel steamer and placed before the audience the love affairs of some of the passengers. Miss Chalmers had the chief comedy part as Mrs. Bilberry, which supplied much amusement, while as her daughter Amy, Miss Isla Auld showed the effects experienced by those suffering from mal de mer in a touching manner. Other parts were taken by Mrs. E. R. Pilkington, Aunt Clara; Miss Rena Skenkin, Lady Armitage; and Mr. R.'S. Chalmers. This was followed by another comedy sketch, "The Collaborators," in which the parts were taken by Miss Melzie Johnston and Mr. R. G. Pollett. A Dickens dramatisation of Mrs. Gamp and her much-talked about friend Betsy Prig, was given by Mrs, and Miss M. Pilkington, Miss Edna Thomas told some bedtime stories in a very interesting manner, and a musical monologue by Mr. M. Lewis was much enjoyed. At the conclusion supper was served by the circle, and an enjoyable evening closed.
