, VAGABOND SENT TO PRISON. "When accused was last before your Worship he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within six months, provided he went away into . the country," said Detective-Sergeant i Kelly when William Venice Aitken, a ■ labourer, aged 33, appeared in the Police ! Court this morning. Aitken was charged • with being a rogue and vagabond with ! insufficient means of support, having been previously convicted on an idle 1 and disorderly charge. Accused pleaded guilty. Mr. Kelly said accused had been found in an empty house at Wiri. He had been begging round the district, and the residents were afraid of him. "He has had one or two chances," said Staff-Captain Holmes, of the Salvation Army. After reading down a long list, the magistrate sent Aitken to Mount Eden •< for another six months.
