I WEDNESDAY COMPETITION.

| BARMEN BEAT "THE REST." \ The final game of the Wednesday | competition conducted by the Auckland S Rugby League took place yesterday | afternoon, when a fair crowd saw the I Barmen, tlio shield holders, beat the Rest" by 8 points to 7 in a contest I that was close all the way. The losers, who showed better combination, opened with a penalty goal by Harding who, a minute later, missed badly in a race to retrieve, Hudson getting a lucky try for Barmen. Just before the interval, a fine movement initiated by Munce ended with Mills handing on to Stepanicic, who scored wide out, leaving the figures o—3. A good solo run by Goodwin for the Rest was replied to by good work by Laydon and an interception by "Hudson. Then Harding kicked a fine penalty, and, with Mills, McManus, and Munce handling well, it looked as though the Rest were j assured of a win. Thrustful play by [ Laydon enabled O'Donnell to change the i issue, and he scored wide out, also con- | verting. The Rest made great efforts towards the close, but the defence v/as j solid. Mr. Jackson was referee.
