TERRIBLE FLIGHT.
MATTHEWS UNLUCKY. Forced Landing After Burma to Siam Crossing. REPAIRS DOUBTFUL.
(United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 12 noon.) SINGAPORE, September 28. Captain F. R. Matthews had a terrible crossing from Burma to Siam. He encountered heavy mists and torrential monsoon rains, which forced him down in inky darkness at Banmee, 100 miles from Bangkok, the capital of Siam. The propeller and one wing were broken and the tail of the machine damaged. Captain Matthews has a spare propeller, but it is uncertain whether he can effect repairs to his allmetal machine. If he can he will go on to Australia, after which he will attempt a ' record flight back to England. The Siamese Minister of War has sent a party of men to assist the airman in making repairs. The airman was unhurt. The accident robs him of the chance of beating Bert Hinklera record for the Australian flight.
