LAWN TENNIS.

MANGERE CENTRAL. •The Mangerc Central Tennis Club held its official opening on Saturday. There was a recoru attendance of members and visitors, including jUr. R. Hardy, president of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association, and Mr. E. W. Griffiths, past president. Mr. Rennie, president of the club, welcomed the visitors and declared the court open. Messrs. Hardy and Griflitlis replied. Mr. F. W. House, donor of the ground, also spoke. During the afternoon a progressive tournament was played and was won by Miss Hall and Mr. F. Taylor. TE AROHA CLUB. The president, Mr. L.'C. Mackie, presided at a well-attended annual meeting of members of the To Aroha Tennis Club on Friday evening. The report for the past, year showed the club to be in a satisfactory financial jiositiou. There were 45 men and 40 ladies on the membership roll. The Te Aroha A team were the winners of the Lawrence Cup, Mrs. Halligan won the club's ladies' championship and Mr. It. Barriball the men's championship. Thanks of the club were due te Dr. W. It. Lawrence for donation of trophies, to Mr. R. A. Candy for fertilisers. to the ladies committee for assistance and (o the Press for publicity given throughout the year. The balance-sheet showed receipts, £ 107 6/1, expenditure, £185 0/1 and depreciation, £05 0/7. The assets were noted at £203 for plant and £312 for ground and the liabilities at £177 10/7. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr. R. L. Somers; president, Mr. L. C. Mackie; vice-presidents, Dr. W. It. Lawrence. Messrs. R. A. Candy, R. W. Magill, G. Gilchrist. H. A. Bradley. F. 1,. Kenrick and R. Walter; club captain, Mr. E. W. Wright; secretary, Mr. E. S. Clarke: treasurer, Mr. Konah; auditor, Mr. A. W. Vickors; selectors to be loft to the committee: ladies' committee, Misses E. Ranby, Bliss. Noake, Sleep. McGlnslian and Mrs. (Jaw: men's committee. Messrs. Towers. Kemp and Candy. The members' subscript .ions were fixed at men £3, ladies £2. with rebate of 10/ if paid by December 1; junior subscriptions to be the same as last year.
