WAITAKERE BUSH AREA.
OFFERED TO CITY. COUNCIL.
An area of 2580 acres of scrub -and second growth bush, land between Kaiekare and Whatipu, belonging to tbe estate of the late Mrs. E., E. Rayner, was offered' by Messrs. S. Vaile and Sons .to the Auckland. City Council for , £2000. The water committee last,-, night recommended that £1500 be offered, the cost to be equally divided between : the .parks and ..water committees. ' \
.. Mr. G. W. Hutchison said' that ..the land would: never be "wanted for a water catchment area and' the,-water, account should not be saddled with any. of the cost. It was no doubt wise tothink,.of the future, but the land was inaccesi sible and would not be wanted for fifty i years. Every penny of expenditure must be watched. ' ■
, Eventually the council referred ,t'he matter back to. the 'committee,,the council to visit, the. area , in the - meantiine., •
