CIVIC ELECTION <<PLATFOBM>'
MELBOSE PARK DEVELOPMENT.
An ere entire meeting of tie Devonport Property-holders' Association was held last evening. _Mr. D. W. MpTr-vn presiding. The question of establishing a tentative platform for the guidance of candidates for municipal honours was discussed, and it was agreed to as follows: Xo more borrowing, more economy in administration of borough, and that subsidiary streets be dealt with as finances permitted. Mr. Jackson inquired as to the decision reached by the council regarding a loan for Melrose Park. Mr. Lyon explained that a request was made to the council to raise £1000 on a basis of £2 for £1 subsidy, «Ttri that the Melrose Park committee had undertaken to pay the whole of the interest and sinking fund. The council had agreed to the request. The money was to be raised to assist unemployment. On Mr. Thompson's motion it was agreed to protest to the council against any further effort to raise loans without the consent of the ratepayers. A further resolution . was carried urging .the council to obtain greater financial aid respecting Government lands, for at present only £460 is received and with that a most expensive road has to be maintained. | The chairman referred to the 31s- | colouration of the borough water.
