AUCKLAND PROGRAMME.

FOR SPRING MEETING.

SLIGHT REDUCTION IN STAKES.

In view of the marked slump in totalisator betting during the recent months, it was expected that when the committee of the Auckland ' Trotting Club drew up their programmes for the present season there would be made a free use of the pruning knife when the stake money was being allotted. The committee yesterday approved of the programme for the spring meeting, and this fixture is really the meeting corresponding with that of the Otahuhu Club held last October. In making a comparison it is found that, the present financial stringency being considered, the committee of the A.T.C have been very generous to owners, as the stake money for the meeting to be held on October 25 and 27 next is only £3-50 less than that given by the OtaLuhu Club in the spring of last season. The principal event each day has been reduced from £700 to £600, and in four instances stakes have been reduced by £50, while in one case, the Papatoeioe Handicap on the second day, there is a £50 increase. The total prize money allotted 13 £4550, of which £22-50 is attached to the first day, and £2300 to the second. The complete programme is given below: —
