RUAKURA FARM ACTIVITIES.
PRODUCTION INCREASE RECORDED

- With the volume of production, sho\ying ■ a distinct increase, the RuaTcura Farm experienced a good season duripg 1929-30. . x :': The aniiual report of the Agricultural Department presented to Parliament to-day indicated that the total earnings for the year .were £11,262. The dairy herd had produced well, and during last year 18 young cows; including eight heifers, ,were under C.O.R. test, giving, an , average yield of 5101b of butterfaj;. The pastures on the farm had been improved, and at the present time the farm (t.otal area 898 acres) was carrying approximately 370 cattle (including 112 yearlings), 2000 sheep, and 150 pigs, besides farm horses. Experimental grass plots had beeii established on the farm, and thes&.were. proving of great interest :io"visiting farmers, and are also of value for instructional-purposes. ! ':TJie.full mimbef of students, 49, which could be accommodated at the farm traiining college was in residence. The school evidently met a requirement of the Dominion, and when financial conditions permitted it could well., be enlarged or. what would probably be better, supplemented by an establishment in another part of the Dominion.
