Toasts were proposed by various officers and members of the committee, and after items by some of the troop the programme was continued in the upstairs hall. The system of instruction has been altered and several improvements in the general routine of parades introduced. The troop is in a healthy condition, and is progressing steadily. Over eighty people were present and a very enjoyable evening .was spent. St. George's.— Part of each parade night is being devoted to working up a concert to be given shortly. The troop was joined in a church parade last month by the Guides and Rangers from the AkeEungi and Kakami' companies. Fine weather prevailed and the turnout was very successful. ist Kitchener Group.— The Kitchener Group still continues to advance in numbers and efficiency. The cubs have shown good progress during the last few months, but we hope to increase our numbers, which now total 24. The boys are showing a keen interest in their work, and we hope to have a very successful year. The- troop, with the Rewhiti Patrol, now numbers over forty, while the Rovers, although still few in numbers, are very keen. Recently a,hike was arranged for Scouts and Rovers to Te Henga, on the West Coast, but, much to the° disappointment of all, we* weather caused the trip to be postponed However, five of the Rovers braved th<elements and made the trip in the after noon, and in spite of an over-abundanci of mud and moisture, the little part. l had a very enjoyable time. Arrangement; for a concert to pay for six new aik tents are now keeping the Rovers busy Needless to say, everyone' was very, pleased with.the' repetition of our usur ' success on Daffodil Day.

Watson is described as being in a most flourishing condition. There are 36 cubs altogether, and seven boys were passed recently in ambulance and six succeeded in obtaining their second star. When the tests were over the D.C3I. was invited to a sit-down afternoon tea.

Matamata Troop. It was very unfortunate that the entertainment organised by the Matamata Troop of Boy Scouts, "which was held in the Town Hall on Monday, should clash with the screening of one of the most popular pictures in world. This undoubtedly militated against the attendance, which was not so large as had been expected. Those who did attend were loud in their praise of the excellence of the programme submitted, and it was generally admitted that the boys had excelled themselves. The evening's entertainment was provided by the Rovers, Scouts and Cubs, assisted by Mr. H. E. Schofield and his Matamata orchestra. During the evening Mr. A. Thirlwall. president of the Boy Scouts' committee, thanked those who had supported the boys' efforts to increase their funds, and especially members of the Matamata Musical Society, who had given their services. The programme was as follows: —The National Anthem, by Rovers, Scouts and Cubs; tumbling exercises, the Cubs; recitation, Scout A. Thomas; gymnastic display, the Scouts; recitation, "The "Pants that Mother Made/ , Cub R. Bell; selection, Matamata, orchestra; Cub scenes, Cubs and Beaver Patrol; first aid display. Lion Patrol; recitation, "The Christmas Turkey," Cub A. Howes; selectyn, Matamata orchestra; sketch, "Ten Little Wolf Cubs," the Cubs; playlet, "The Burglar Trap." Boy Scouts; sketch, "Mr. Pickwick in Trouble," the Rovers. The cast for "The Burglar Trap" was as follows: Mr. Brown, P.L. Thirlwall; Mrs. Brown, Pi. A. Quigg; cook, R. L. Ellery; housemaid, Scout A. Briscoe: Arthur, Mrs. Brown's nephew, CM. G. Qnigg. Both playlets well presented and earned loud applause. Another popular item was the selection "The American Medley," rendered by the orchestra. The scenes of camp life, and signalling and other tests given in tableaux form by the Cubs were also much appreciated. Tie local troop of Scouts has now a roll of SO members, and the evening was organised in furtherance of the policy of Scoutmaster Southon and the committee, of making the boys self-reliant so far as their finances are concerned, instead of relying on subscription lists and other forms of canvassing.
