LOCAL BODIES.
OTAHUHU BOROUGH COUNCIL. The Otahuhu Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, K. T. Clements, presiding. Portage Road—Miss McCallum appeared for the residents of Portage Road, and explained that the council had misunderstood their petition and requirements. All they wanted was access to the bus stop from the footpath. The Mayor and the works committee will endeavour to meet their requirements. Railway Crossing Signs—The Municipal Association suggested that the council should not erect railway crossing signs when called upon, until it had consulted the association's executive. The letter was received, as signs have already been erected. Saleyards.— I The -Manukau County Council advised the council that it intended to take no action with regard to the removal of the saleyards. Speed of Buses.—Wheeler Bros, asked permission to increase the speed of their buses to 25 miles per hour through Otahuhu, as the approval of their time-table was subject to ' this permission being granted. The* request was deferred for further consideration. Water Supply.—Mr. Pearce complained about the amount of chlorine being added to the water, and suggested that the works committee go into the question of a new chlorinating plant. > The committee will secure all the available information and report later. Benefit Football Match.—The Otahuhu Rugby League, which is arranging for a benefit match for the McManus family on September 20, was granted permission to make a charge of 1/ for admission to Sturges Park on that date. _ On the motion of Mr. Gray congratulations were extended to members of the staff and the public for the very successful benefit organised for the family.
