IMPRISONED WOMAN.
APPEAL FOR REHEARING.
APPLICATION DISMISSED,
A woman who had been sentenced in' thp Magistrate's Court by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., to three months' imprisonment was the applicant in a Avrit of certiorari before Mr. Justice Herdma'n. in the Supremo "Court to-day. Mr. J. J. Sullivan appeared in support of the application, and Mr. V. R. Meredith, Crown solicitor, opposed it, on behalf of the magistrate and the police officer Avho had laid the information.
The applicant was Violet Cousins, domestic, of Auckland, who liad a, long list of convictions when she was senteheed on August 11 for being an idle and disorderly person, who habitually consorted with persons of bad repute. Nine days after sentence Avas passed, application Avas made to Mr. Hunt for a re-hearing, as' the time allowed for an appeal against tire sentence had elapsed, and it was . desired to submit certain evidence. This application was refused by Mr. Hunt on August 25, and the proceedings to-day were taken in consequence.
The application was dismissed, with costs. .
