MELBOURNE, this day,
■Important have been reached by the Council of the Australian Oversea Transport Association, having as their' object the rationalisation of shipping in the handling of Australian exports, the stabilisation of freights at the present levels, and the eventual reduction in freights.
The freight on wool, exccpt that shipped to Japan and the United States, will be increased by one-sixteenth of a penny per pound, and a "loyalty" rebate of 1/9 per bale on greasy wool, and 1/G per bale on scoured wool will be made at the end of- the season.
A compromise has been reached on the question of the payment, of freight on refrigerated cargo on the (basis of London sterling, the shipowners agreeing to meet half the cost of the exchange.
Exporters of butter and fruit, have agreed-to . this proposal, and the meat industry will decide the question next week.
