COST OF LIVING.
RAILWAY OFFICERS ON FRIGE
FIXATION,
MERCHANTS AND GROCERS
(I'y Tele-nipt!.—thru Correspondent ) WELLINGTON, this day
Hie cost of living in so far as price fixation is concerned was considered s't a special meeting of railway officers. It was alleged that a concerted movement was afoot in one particular trade, ostensibly for the ! purpose of fixiii" wholesale and retail prices. A rcsolib tion was carried unanimously "That this meeting of railway officers views with alarm the action of merchants and grocers in combining for the purpose of fixing the prices of foodstuffs, which action must inevitably recoil to the grave disadvantage of the consumer.' °This meeting also regards such action, in view of the serious financial position of the country, as being taken at a time when the public arc quite unable to meet the slightest increase in the cost of living."
