FINANCE ACT.
CLAUSES NOW OPERATING.
TOTALISATOR AND GARS
(By ' Telegraph.-r—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Monday.
The consent having been given to the Finance Act the increased totalisator tax is now operative. According to messages from Dunedin there is an impression that the recen'fc change in the tariff, Canadian motor vehicles on the general list instead of on the British preferential list, is subject to approval of Parliament. This is not the case. The change was operative on the da'te of its announcement, when an OrderriiiTCouncil was published to that effect. However, there is a clause in this order to the effeet that the new duties will not operate on produce of Canada exported prior to August 20.
