TAUMARUNUI NOTES.
The annual ball arranged by the Taumarunui Returned Soldiers'.Association, was held in the Theatre Royal on Wednesday evening, when a large number of dancers were present; The theatre was artistically decorated, the walls completely clothed with flags, and greenery, paper streamers of; red, white and blue, hung from the'festoons of coloured .lights and were looped to ■ the walls. The stage was arranged-with palms and ferns as a garden.. Supper was provided in the annex; The Maungaturoto School Committee held a fancy dress ball in Mr. J. Gemmell's' woolshed recently, when there was a large attendance. Prizes for fancy dresses were 1 won by Mr. Myrtle Moir (pack of cards), and Miss Jean Sunnex (Eastern peasant). The juvenile events were won by Miss Peggy Stebbing (Maori' Princess), and Master T. Gemmell (Brown.Elf). During the evening Miss MoJlie Ford gave a Highland Fling. A dainty supper was provided by the ladies. The Tokirima Tennis Club. held their annual! ball ,in ithe . Tokirima Hall •on Saturday, evening; when- the hall was beautifully decorated.,. The;* spot walte competition was won by Mrs. fW. - Mc•Kenpie and Mr. A. White; while . Miss Loft and Master Norman Tdwnsend won the..Monte Carlo, waltzc The prizes for faflicy costumes' were as follows: 1 Mrs. H.' ; Thompsbn, : Egyptian lady; Mr. C. Bon, Red" Indian. During the "evening Miss Ruby Jones danced the Highland Fling and also a clock waltz. . A euchre- party' was held in the' Tatu .Hall on: Friday evening',' in aid of .'the' hall funds. The lady's prize was won by Mrs. C. Nicholls and the gentleman's by Mr. M. Gill. The consolation prizes went to Miss E. Browne and Mi*. R. Ruddick. v r . A number of friends of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Robinson, Ohura, paid a surprise visit to their home 011 Wednesday evening for a gift evening to Miss' Jean Robinson, who is to be married shortly. A pleasant evening Was spent in progressive euchre, bridge and dancing. On .Friday night 'the Matiere Social Club held their opening dance, when an enjoyable evening was spent. The Monte Carlo waltz competition was won by Miss K. Bradshaw and. Mr. W. Duiih.
