TAKAPUNA SCHOOLS.
ATHLETIC CUPS PRESENTED.
CONGRATULATIONS TO SAVIDAN.
The Herbert Smith Trust Fund Cups were presented yesterday at the Takapuna schools. In addressing the assembled children and winners of the relay races the Mayor, Mr. J. W. Williamson, said Takapuna should be proud of the wonderful achievement of Savidan at the Empire Games in Canada. He would personally cable Savidan that Takapuna is proud of its representative.
The Rev. J. Hiddlestone briefly explained the objects of the Herbert Smith trust fund, invited the Mayoress to make the presentation of the handsome cups to the winners, and expressed the hope that the schools would still continue to be foremost in athletics. The Mayoress mad« the presentations to the following winners:—
Girls' Relay Race—Nora Williams (captain), Myrle Crossley, Una Thompson, Maisie "VVrigley. Boys' Relay.—D. Fenwick, F. Brinsley, R. Darrock, Lindsay Jack. Other prizes also were distributed. Mention was made of the success of the school Rugby football team in the junior primary grade, North Shore group. It played sis matches and won them all. It scored 101 and had no points scored against it. Amongst others present at the gathering were Mr. J. R. Penning, Mr. H. BellBooth, Mr. G. C. Malcolm, the headmaster, and staff.
