OIL IN TAUMARUNUI.
BORING TO COMMENCE
PLANT ORDERED,
During the early part of _ last year a number of Taumarunui residents became keenly interested in the possibilities of petroleum being found in payable quantities in the district. A syndicate was formed, but owing to some disagreement the scheme was not gone on with. Mr. S. Mercep, one of the original syndicate, 4 has, however, announced that he intends going on with the project. He has made representations to the Minister of Mines, and the Government have proclaimed certain land in the vicinity of Taumarunui as a mineral-bearing area. The Government have also offered Mr. Mercep assistance in the way of a boring plant, but as it is not suitable, Mr. Mercep has ordered a new plant, which should be ready for work by next December.
