TROTTING.

ADDINGTON NOTES.

F. G. HOLMES' INJURY.

WHAKATATJA DISAPPOINTS.

(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. F. G. Holmes received a nasty shaking when he was thrown out of the 6ulky whilst driving Travis Axworthy in the National Handicap last week. He severely injured the muscles of his arm and shoulder, and it may be a month or more before he is right again. Judged by his racing at Addington the four-year-old Ngingo Xgin?o has not improved since last season. The Matchlight pacer failed to show any dash, and is evidently not at his best or else he raced a good deal below expeetations. 0. E. Hooper expected Great Logan to put up a good performance in the August Handicap on the first day at Addington, but, although he paced soundly all the way, he was found wanting in the final stages. Great Logan has yet to prove that be is a good two-miler in a solidly run race. Country King was racing well at the I conclusion of last season, but after his. trip to Auckland he seemed to train off slightly. He was made favourite for the Trial Handicap on the first day at Addington, but raced a good deal below his best form. The Man-o'-War pacer Whakataua raced well last season, especially over two miles, showing plenty of stamina. The Methven-trained pacer looked in fine shape at Addington, but he raced indifferently. He showed all his old speed, but in the concluding stages he failed very badly. In the Queen Mary Handicap on the first day he was made favourite, but after being well placed at the end of half the distance, he quickly faded out of the race. While the class contesting the mile and a half trotters' races at the August meeting was well up to standard, the horses racing in the two-mile events were not so good as formerly. John Mauritius, who has come back to his best form, accounted for the three races, but the fields were not strong.
