NOTES FROM RICCARTON.
SPOON FOR DUNEDIN.
QUARTERDECK AS HURDLER.
(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.")
CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday.
The work at Riccarton this morning was not of much interest. The No. 7 grass track was open, but only a few horses went on it, and their tasks in the main were short sprints, not many of them going more than three furlongs. Most of the horses who raced last week are still having an easy time, but others, who are being' got ready for spring •ngagements, will soon have their work Increased.
The three-year-old filly Spoon was given a sprint over three furlongs this morning. It was her first sprint since she won the Challenge Stakes at Easter, and she moved along nicely though without being asked to do her best as she went off slowly. The Tea Tray filly is being got ready for the Dunedin Guineas.
Thurina, ridden by E. Shaw, was given a school over two hurdles at Riccarton this morning, and shaped attractively. D. Campbell has taken in hand a two-year-old brother to Battle Colours and Satisfy, by Solferino from Satisfaction. He is a well-grown young horse. P. V. Mason is keeping his team busy in useful tasks at present, and several of them should be ready to show form early. The three-year-olds Ozone, and Praise look in good order.
