PAKURANGA HUNT CLUB.
THE ANNUAL MEETING.
TO-MORROW'S PROGRAMME.
THE FIELDS REVIEWED,
The annual race meeting of the Pakurnnga Hunt Club will be held at Ellerslie to-morrow, and, with fine weather, an excellent day's sport should result, for the fields are good throughout. The going will be on tiie heavy side. Grsenmount Hunters' Steeplechase. Eleven are carded for the Greenmount Hunters' Steeplechase. Mandate, who is at the top of the weights, has been scratched. Foxhound handled the country fairly well at Ellerslie yesterday until he fell at the stonewall, the last jump of the school. Marita was second in this event last year, while Solanio and The Roadman are new to the jumping game. Solanio schooled well over the Ellerslie country recently, while The Roadman has been going well at Te Rapa. Freyja fell in the Hunt Club Cup at Ellerslie in June, but has since been schooling well. She should be improved. Lovely Boy may be the best of the others. The public may go for MARITA FREYJA. THE ROADMAN The Hunters' Hurdles. Mashoor, who is at the head of those engaged in the Harris Memorial Hunters' Hurdles, was second to Pennyplain in the Hunt Club Hurdles, two miles, at the Great Northern meeting and afterwards occupied a similar position to Aurora Borealis in the Winter Steeplechase. He should go well. Pennyplain, who is also engaged, annexed the Hunt Club Hurdles at Ellerslie very easily, and was third in the Hunt Club Cup Steeplechase on the following "day. He will be well fancied. Oscar had shown pace on the flat previous to being put over hurdles last season. He was fourth in the Ngaroto Hurdles, about a mile and a half, at the Waipa meeting last month and was going well till he hit a fence during the latter part of the race. Fair Abbey lias nothing to commend him recently. Spalpiko showed good form over obstacles last season, though' he did not manage to. win a race. He was third to Omeo and Calitlie in the Hunters' Hurdles, one mile and three-quarters, at the last Waikato Hunt meeting, second to' The Lamb in the Kopaki Hurdles, of similar distance, at Te Kuiti, second in the Hunt Club Steeplechase to Lueess at the Great Northern meeting, and third in the Hunters' Steeplechase at the Waipa meeting last month. Marble Mount has been schooling well recently, while Temperature led into the straight in the Hunt Club Hurdles, two miles, at the Great Northern meeting and finished fourth. The chief fancies may be
PENNYPLAIN SPALPIKO TEMPERATURE. The Sylvia Park Handicap. There is a large field engaged, in the Sylvia Park Handicap, in which Volimond has pride of place. She won a division of the Bardowie Handicap, six furlongs and a half, at the Waikato Hunt meeting and finished second in the Ferry Handicap, seven furlongs, at the Takapuna summer meeting. She was also second in the Wynyard Plate, of- similar distance, at the same meeting, third in the Wairakau Handicap, seven furlongs, at Te Arolia, and was second in the Beerescourt Handicap, seven furlongs, at the Waikato autumn meeting. Unoco was just beaten by Te Hoia in the Arapuni Handicap, seven furlongs, at the rccent Waipa meeting, while Cruachan won the Hairini Handicap, six furlongs, at the same fixture. Sir Mond won a (iouble over seven furlongs at Avondale in the autumn, while Gay Cockade was second to Tenakoe in the Nelson Handicap, one mile, at the Auckland autumn meeting and finished second to Hannibal in the second division of the Jervois Handicap, one mile, at the recent Great Northern meeting. Karapoti only started twice as a two-year-old last season, winning in his last effort in November last. The Sun raced well at the Waipa meeting and also at Wellington last month, where he finished fourth in the Te Aro Handicap, seven furlongs, occupied a similar position in the High-weight Handicap, one. mile.'and five furlongs, and won the Crofton Handicap, seven furlongs, on the concluding day. He should be hard to beat to-morrow. Frothblower has not raced since he ran second to Gold Lily over seven furlongs. at the Whangarei autumn meeting. He has been galloping well at Ellerslie. Principal was third in a division of the Jervois Handicap, one mile, alnd also in the Ranfurly Handicap, seven furlongs, at the recent Great Northern meeting. Royal Visitor was successful in.-a maiden race at Taumarunui, while' Biddy Comet won over six furlongs at the Waikato autumn meeting and was placed on other occasions last season. Lady Comet accounted for the Nursery Handicap, six furlongs, at the Avondale autumn meeting, which was her last effort. She has been going well at Ellerslie and should show to advantage. Of the others, Wild Country may prove best. Most money may go on CRUACHAN THE SUN . , - LADY COURT. The Jellicoe Handicap. Fourteen have been paid up for in the Jellicoe Handicap. True Blood won the Cornwall Handicap, one mile and a quarter, at Ellerslie and the Parliamentary Handicap, of' similar distance, at Trentham, which was his last start. He would only need to reproduce that form to be very hard to beat. Maori Boy accounted for the York Handicap, one mile, at the Great Northern meeting, but was beaten in his two subsequent efforts. However, he looks well and should go a good race. Nancy Lee has not been out of a place since she resumed racing, and her second in the Winter Cup, one mile, at Riccar-' ton last week will ensure her friends. She has yet to win over this distance, but there is nothing to say she cannot stay out ten furlongs. Paddon has been scratched, while Desert Glow, though he looks well, has not been in the money since the Auckland autumn meeting. High Pitch ran second in the Whyte Handicap, one mile, at Trentham last month and looks improved. Standfast finished third in the York Handicap, one mile, at the Great Northern meeting and second in the Woodstock Stakes, one mile and a quarter, at the Waipa meeting, which was his last outing. He will also have to be considered. Of the others Hannibal, who was third to Eager Rose I Standfast at Waipa, yrill probably
prove the most dangerous, for he is in good fettle. Most of the investments will probably go on TRUE BLOOD NANCY LEE STANDFAST. V The Hunt Club Cup. Maslioor, who is engaged in the Harris Memorial Hunters' Hurdles earlier in the day, is at the top of those carded for the Pakuranga Hunt Club Cup, and liis recent performances are referred to above. Odin should go well if started, for he finished third in the Great Northern Steeplechase. Huirangi Girl, was second to Risk in the Hunt Cup Steeplechase, about three miles, at the Manawatu meeting recently. St. Warrigal showed good form at the Great Northern meeting and subsequently won the Hunters' Steeples at the Waipa meeting. Spalpiko was second to Lucess in the Hunt Club Cup at Ellerslie last month, while of those lower down Marita may appeal most. The best backed may be > ODIN ST. WARRIGAL SPALPIKO. The Auckland Handicap. Sir Mond, who is engaged in the Auckland Handicap, also figures in the Sylvia Park Handicap earlier in the day. Trishna was third to Te Hoia and Unoco over seven furlongs at the recent Waipa meeting. Carlaris has had his attention confined to hurdling recently, while Principal, like Sir Mond, also figures in the Sylvia Park Handicap. Rossliire ran two good races at the Wellington winter meeting, being second in each of them. Catoma has been galloping well and looks likely to improve on his efforts at the Great Northern meeting.- The public may select ROSSHIRE . 5 CATOMA TRISHNA. , ; . The Ladies' Bracelet. The Ladies' Bracelet is a gentleman riders' event. Oscar showed ability up to eight and a half furlongs last season, while Fall o' the Year has won the Hunters' Bracelet, one mile, at the Poverty Bay Hunt meeting for the last two years in succession. Odin is engaged in the Hunt Club Steeplechase earlier in the day, while Pennyplain has been paid up for in the Hunters' Hurdles. If started in this event they should go well, particularly the latter. Day Lass won a High-weight Handicap at Opotiki last season, which was her only success. Solanio has not raced for some time, while of the others Temperature and Dominican, who is stated to be galloping well at Takanini, may be Uie best. The chief selections when the machine closes may be FALL 0' THE YEAR PENNYPLAIN DAY LASS. The Concluding Event. The meeting will conclude with the Dunedin Handicap. Gold Money, who is top-weight, ran well at the Great Northern meeting, winning the Members' Handicap, six furlongs, and the King George Handicap, seven furlongs. She has been going along well in her work since then. Royal Ruler was a good two-year-old last season, and is reported to have been working attractively at Te Awamutu. He looks well. Prince of Orange finished second to Havering in the Onslow Handicap, six furlongs, on the last day of the Wellington winter meeting. King's Speech has not raced for a long, time, but Lady's Boy appears to be improving. Kingfield only won one race last season, but Lucy Rose was just beaten by Gold Money in the King George Handicap at Ellerslie in June. Chromadyne, at the same meeting, won a division of the Jervois Handicap and the Carbine Plate, and has been a most consistent performer since he started racing, having won five events and been four times second, out of twelve starts. Flying Prince won this event last season, and Awamutu, who comes from the same stable, and is also engaged, galloped well at Ellerslie yesterday morning. White Wings won the Flying Handicap at the Poverty Bay meeting in her last start and may prove the best of the remainder. Most money may go on GOLD MONEY ROYAL RULER CHROMADYNE.
