That the Tongariro Timber Co., Ltd., has not been able to any claim against the State is the opunou of the Native Affairs Committee, a= expressed in a report furnished to the House to-day on the claims made in ■ of the liabilities ot the company and with regard to the effect on the Egmont Box Co., Ltd., ot the de„ermTnation of the timber company s right* to West Taupo ttmbelr lands. Ihe committee is further of ' the opinion that the -Eemonfc Bos Company legal rights "to the Western A block and that these should be defined by legislation or a fresh agreement. ' . _ Pleasure. =tbat the committee had reported- favourably': in connection with the-claims-of the Egmont Box. Company was expressed by Mr. C. A. _ W ilkinson (Er>mont-) and'Jfr. H. G. Dickie (Pa<.ea), ■who said the company had .for many vekrs been endeavouring, to establish its rights to the piece of land in question. Mr.. Dickie trusted the Government would take notice of the committee's recognition of the company's rights in the property, and-introduce legislation to -validate the company's claims. The Public Petitions Committee today- referred .to:'the Government for most favourable consideration the petition, of W. Forrest, of Thames, for: redress or compensation in respect of loss incurred iu. sawmilling and an alleged breach of contract by the Commissioner of CrOw 11 Lands, Auckland.
