CHILDREN'S GATHERING.
The children of the Bayfield School entertained their parents and friends on Wednesday afternoon, when the girls of the basketball teams gave an exhibition of this popular game. Every class was represented, and the_ very smallest children were full of pndo in their school badge and uniform. There was-a-large gathering of parents, who lined the sports ground, greatly to the delight of the children. Eleven teams played in 15-minute spells, and at the conclusion a delicious afternoon tea was served by the lady teachers and senior girls, : with an exhibition of country dancing ivas given. The splendid team work of the players and the smooth organisation of the display reflects great credit on those responsible for the training of the girls. The following day it was the infants' turn. Parents had been invited to see their- children at work, and all morning busy little fingers had been at work preparing samples of their best work to show-mummy or daddy. Blackboards round the room were filled with coloured drawings and specimens of writing, while every available space on the walls was taken up with paper cut-outs, pictures and mats. Parents were entertained with recitations, dramatic sketches, songs, games and eurhythmies, the last-mentioned being a revelation to parents of what very young children can be trained to do in ordinary school'time. Such gatherings mako for goodwill between parents and teachers, besides encouraging children to make a greater effort.
