UNFAIR PACKING.

MARKET GARDENERS FINED,

Two Chinese and one European were charged in the Police Court this morning with the fraudulent packing of fruit and vegetables. Gerald Foley, for failing to pack new potatoes according to regulation, was fined £3 and costs. Mr. F. M. Talbot, fruit inspector, said there were nice new potatoes on top, but there were inferior ones underneath. Foley, he declared he did not know the regulations, and that it was the first time he had packed vegetables for market. Sam Yak, who pleaded guilty, had in his employ a Maori who thought he was doing great things by packing the big carrots on the top and putting the little ones underneath. Sam \ak was lined £3 and costs. The same penalty was imposed on Wai Kee, whose cabbages were not packed according to regulations. In the centre of the sack there was nothing but leaves and rubbish.
