ENGLAND DOES WELL.
New Zealand Competitors Still In Bowls and Swimming. SECOND IN ROWING. (United P.A.— Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 11 a.m.) TORONTO, August 20. In the bowling doubles England 36, beat South Africa 8; New Zealand (McWhannell and Fielding) 19, beat Canada 16. New Zealand assumed an early lead, and held it to the end. In the singles Colquhoun (England) 21, beat Reid (Canada) 20. England won the doubles bowling title. 2s ew Zealand and Canada tied for second place. In the eight-oared rowing championship New Zealand was second and Canada third. The further rowing events had to be postponed to Thursday on account of bad weather. Swimming Kaces and Diving. In the natatorial events last evening Joyce Cooper (England) won the women's 100 yds free style race in 67s—a new Canadian record. Ellen King (Scotland) was second and Valerie Davis (Wales) third. The women's springboard diving was won by 0. Whitesetc (South Africa), with Doris Ogilvie (Canada) second and Molly Bailey (Canada) third. The men's SOOyds race resulted: Canada, 1; England, 2. Ryan (Australia) swam marvellously and won the men's liiOOyds free style race. Bridson (New Zealand) was second and Burleigh (Canada) third. Canadian Women's Championships. In the Canadian women's championships, which were held in connection with the Empire Games, the results were follows:— 60 Metres. —Junior: Irene Storey, 1. Time, Ss. Intermediate: Lilian Palmer, 1. Time, 7 9-10s. Senior: Myrtle Cook, 1. Time, 7 7-10s. Ethel Catherwood won the running high jump and also the javelin throw. 100 Metres.—Senior: Myrtle Cook, 1. Time, 12 7-10s. 100 Metres Senior Hurdles.—F. Bell, 1. Time, 16 l-10s.
