MT. ROSKILL ROAD BOARD.
Mr. E. F. Jones presided at the meeting of the. Mount Roskill Road Board last night.
Transport Legislation.—ln view of the probable introduction into Parliament during this session of a proposal to amend section 5 of the Auckland Transport Board Act, 1928, so that an election of members to the board will be taken over by the whole district, a conference is to be held at Newmarket this month to consider the proposal. The board appointed Mr. S. I. Goodall to attend the conference, with authority to support the proposal. Tenders.—Mr. J. Dawson, engineer, reported that he /had carefully tabulated the tenders received for house connections in the western area,;.and recommended the adoption of Messrs. W. Stevenson's tender. The Auckland Licensed Drainers' Association wrote protesting against the uif air way of calling tenders for house connections financed by the board, by giving the work to big contractors and thus denying ratepayers the competitive price to which they were entitled. In reply to this complaint the engineer stated that he had received six tenders, and only two of them were from big contractors. The other four were from men in a smaller way of business.
Overdue Rates. —The board's solicitor was instructed to take the necessary steps for the recovery of all overdue rates.
Recommendations. — The following recommendations of the woi'ks committee were adopted:—(l) The engineer's plans for setting back the corner of Rewa Road; (2) that the Transport Board be requested to move the tram stop between Jellicoe and Cambrai Avenues, on the inward side, one pole nearer the city; that all pig farmers who have received notice from the Health Department to effect repairs and alterations be given an extension of one ■month to carry out the work. If it is not clone then, action will be taken; (4) that the electric light in Hollywood Avenue be moved back one pole towards Waiata Avenue.
Commercial Air Port. —The board decided to take no action with regard to the proposed commercial airport, Water Charges.—lt was decided to refer the present water charges to the finance committee to be i-eviewed before the next water rate is struck.
